چکیده

The output distribution formula for stack filters based on mirrored threshold decomposition is derived. This formula allows one to compute the cumulative distribution function of the output of a stack filter for a given independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) input noise distribution. Mirrored threshold decomposition permits us to analyze the input–output characteristics of the stack filter in the binary domain. The sliding window operation of the stack filter is modeled by a deterministic finite automaton. The output distribution of the filter is obtained by interpreting the automaton as a Markov chain whose transition probabilities depend on the probabilistic description of the binary input signal. An example illustrating the use of the output distribution formula is provided.

Nonlinear filtering by threshold decomposition

A new threshold decomposition architecture is introduced to implement stack filters. The architecture is also generalized to a new class of nonlinear filters known as threshold decomposition (TD) filters which are shown to be equivalent to the class of L1-filters under certain conditions. Another new class of filters known as linear and order statistic (LOS) filters result from the intersection...

On the robustness of the class of stack filters

A widely held view in the nonlinear signal processing community is that the class of stack filters is robust. Although this is supported by extensive experimental evidence, no systematic theoretical justification exists, despite the availability of analytical tools for studying robustness of individual stack filters. In this paper, we focus on rank selection probabilities (RSPs) as measures of ...

Dual stack filters and the modified difference of estimates approach to edge detection

The theory of optimal stack filtering has been used in the difference of estimates (DoE) approach to the detection of intensity edges in noisy images. The DoE approach is modified by imposing a symmetry condition on the data used to train the two stack filters. Under this condition, the stack filters obtained are duals of each other. Only one filter must therefore be trained; the other is simpl...

The effect of cells' radius on optical filter output spectrum based on photonic crystals

In this article, the effect of cells' radius on the behavior of wavelength switching optical filter andthe effect of the radius of the optical filters' key characteristics such as wavelength resonance onan optical filter based on photonic crystals, have been investigated. Currently, the most commonapplied mechanism for designing optical filter based on photonic crystals is using twomechanisms s...

Noise Effects on Modal Parameters Extraction of Horizontal Tailplane by Singular Value Decomposition Method Based on Output Only Modal Analysis

According to the great importance of safety in aerospace industries, identification of dynamic parameters of related equipment by experimental tests in operating conditions has been in focus. Due to the existence of noise sources in these conditions the probability of fault occurrence may increases. This study investigates the effects of noise in the process of modal parameters identification b...
